It's Tuesday, it's May 3rd, which is Jason's Birthday Eve. Not a national holiday, but one of my Brower Family Holidays. It's almost time for "The Jason Story". I love to go over the stories of when my children were born. I usually can't remember much in my life, but I do remember these stories. I can't say for sure if my kids appreciate hearing them but I enjoy thinking back and reminiscing.
So, anyway, 36 years ago tonight, Wade and I were visiting and spending the night at his father's house in San Jose, California. We were actually living at Wade's parents' old home in South San Francisco which was one block away from my parents' home. His parents had split up and we had moved into the South City home after they had both moved out. It was a fortunate break for us because some of the furniture was left and that helped us out quite a bit while we lived there. Wade's brother, Raymond also lived at the house with us for a while staying in the downstairs bedroom. This was just a temporary thing and he may have already moved out by this date. I was on maternity leave, but I had been working at Chancelor & Lyon (which was an auto parts supply warehouse) in the front offices. I "coded" parts orders from the various warehouses in the bay area (my official title was Line Coder) I got the orders counted and ready for the keypunch girls to process for billing. This was way before computers and all the orders were punched onto cards, then the cards were run through a machine that read them. From there the information was put on gigantic reels of magnetic tape which would be wound through the computer that filled a room about as big as a grocery store.
Now, Bill was living with Bev Brower and her three children: Tracy, Bonnie, and Dennis. Wade had a job at the San Francisco Flea Market during this time. But this was the weekend - actually Saturday night and Wade and I were sleeping in the master bedroom at his dad's house. My actual due date had been April 20th so I was overdue. I woke up around 2:00 in the morning with back pains. I got up and paced for a while to see if that would help, but it didn't. Finally, after a couple of hours, I woke up Wade and asked if we could go home. We would have to drive about an hour to get back home. And the hospital was in Redwood City, which was between the two houses. It would have been easier to just drive straight to the hospital. But..... I was 19 and progressively getting more and more nervous and scared, and all I could think about was going home. Home felt like the safest option to me. So we got in our Pinto, our little, green Pinto and headed for home.
....and ..........to be continued.................................

I had a fair-ly busy day today. This morning I went to the Post Office, then to Hannah House. I was done there at 1:30 and stopped at the bank, Rite Aid Drug Store, and Lee's Famous Chicken before going home. I ate half my chicken meal (the other half was dinner) and took off for the school and Sonshine Club. Wow - those boys are getting wilder and wilder. There are certain ones that are truly trying all of our collective patiences. Phew!!! Back home for about two hours before going to the Middle School to hear Jaide in her Band Concert. It was good and I enjoyed it. We heard the 5th grade and the 6th grade bands. 5th grade was good and played some beginning basic tunes, but the 6th grade is more complicated and was fun to listen to. I can imagine some 5th graders were listening and wanting to continue band in the 6th grade just because of the fun and cool music they would be playing.
Wade wrote this morning. He got another mail delivery today and he was happy to get that too. I believe that's all the packages that I've sent. I am still waiting to receive one that he sent to me. He's busy with work so I didn't hear a whole lot today. But he's fine.
