Day 59

So today is actually Jason's birthday......let's see where was I? Oh yeah, so we drove back to our house on Sunday morning and I'm having labor pains. We got back home and started thinking about getting ready to head to the hospital. We had no clue what exactly to do - I had not taken any birthing classes - did they even exist back then? I had some leftover tuna fish casserole in the fridge and I fixed myself a plate for lunch. (Okay - no one told me eating would have been a bad idea - trust me I learned that lesson later). We arrived at the hospital around noon. We should have called first and they probably would have told me to wait a while. But they kept me anyway. I went through labor all afternoon and evening. It was a long time and I was getting tired out. Wade was with me in the labor room. After a contraction, I would fall asleep (pretty deeply) for a few minutes and it scared Wade because he couldn't tell if I was breathing or not. He would keep shaking me awake to make sure that I was okay. Finally, shortly after 9:00 - little Jason was born. Wade was not in the delivery room - he begged out of the delivery. But when the doctor came out to tell him it was a boy - Wade said he already knew that because he has put in an "order" for a boy a long time ago. This was before sonograms and finding out the sex of babies.
In this first picture, he does look kinda angry. My mom and dad were at the hospital too that evening and my mom hugged Wade which was surprising to me. She was extremely excited about Jason and having a grandson that would be living so close to her. We stayed in the hospital for maybe two more days. The only 'teaching' I got was how to give a baby a bath. He slept in a little drawer in my room that I could "close" and he would be in the nursery and nurses would take care of him. Oh, and something I never shared before either is that while I was in the hospital, the soap I was given to shower with was Safeguard bar soap. Whenever I use Safeguard bar soap or even smell it now, I'm taken back to that time in my life. And another thing is that every evening in the hospital, I got a snack of graham crackers and fruit punch. Even now, that is a special treat for me. Funny how we connect ourselves to the past with these little traditions. Happy Birthday to Jason. We love you!

So Wade sent along a picture to me this morning. He is enjoying some of the Jesus cookies that I baked and sent to him. He has discovered that they are pretty tasty with peanut butter and Nutella on them. And he shared his goodies with his office mate - Myles. I'm glad that they enjoyed them. AND I'm glad the cookies made it there and that they were edible! That gives me confidence that I can bake and send other things. Wade is busy - and he will finish up his weekly update tomorrow and send that off to me for posting to his blog. I can't wait to read it.
It's been cold and rainy here today and tonight we actually have a frost warning until morning.
